Scrambled brain

11 september 2015 - Cambridge, Verenigd Koninkrijk

Hi everyone :) Another update from me all the way from Cambridge.

Wednesday

Today the new children joined us as well, a boy from the Czech Republic,a boy from Switzerland, a girl from Slovenia and a little Russian boy. Beate (the head teacher for Elderflower) asked me to watch the little Russian boy since he was only three and we didn't know how stable he would be, both emotional and physical. So I followed him everywhere he went and when he started to ask for his mother I showed him a part of the garden he didn't see yet and he cheered up again. During ring time(right after we go inside and was their hands we sit on the ground with them waiting till everyone is inside and clean) two girls sat against me while I read a book for them. The group grew and grew and I felt warm inside seeing all those little faces looking up to me and being happy. Later on we made some dough for bread rolls with the children, which we ate at the end of the day. The rest of the day was basically cleaning up while the children were playing.

Thursday

Yesterday ended up being a very different day then I planned. As every day we started at 8.30 and the children were playing outside. I wanted to do something useful so I picked up some apples that lay under the apple tree and put them in one of the two baskets. Depending if they were rotten or not. I have to tell you that the apple tree has a couple of very low branches. I think you can already guess what happened. I bumped my head quite hard against one of those branches and it hurt. I sat down because I got dizzy and nauseous and got a massive headache. A little while later Beate came to me to ask if everything was alright so I told her what happened. After that I spend the entire morning and part of the afternoon in a bed in the sick room. The staff was really nice to me, visiting me once in while, brining me food and tea and some books. Later the day they brought me to the hospital just to be sure and after a very long time (a lot of waiting) they told me what I already expected. I have a light concussion. So today I'm off and after the weekend I can start again but on easy mode. As my mother said, at least I now know I still have a brain.
