I'm in England!

26 augustus 2015 - Cambridge, Verenigd Koninkrijk

Yes it is true. Your eyes are not deceiving you. I am in Cambridge, I survived the trip.

This morning I had to wake up at four (Dutch time) to be on time in Eindhoven for my flight. After saying goodbye to my dad (who was so friendly to drop me off) and my boyfriend I went on alone. It was a lot of waiting but eventually I could board my plane. It was quit impressive to see all those big planes and knowing you are going to enter one for the very first time. I had a very nice seat next to a window and therefore could make lovely pictures of the land, sea and clouds beneath me. I have to say that I rather enjoyed the flying bit, but the going up and going down bit wasn't so much fun. I got so nauseous. There goes my dream of becoming an air hostess.

When I landed in London Stansted there was a kind of metro you had to take to the terminal which I found pretty awesome. I first thought I had to take a lift but when the doors opened I saw a metro instead. After a very long queue before the border, I was allowed to go in (by a very grumpy looking man. Do those people even know how to smile?). I collected my luggage and went on to the train station.

At the train station I lost my first money to a vending machine. I needed something to drink but it got stuck inside of the machine. Since I really needed something to drink, I just bought another one and went on.
The train was so nice! It had super soft chairs and their was carpet lying on the ground (you can see it a bit on one of the pictures).I really had to fight the sleep that was trying to get me. It didn't take long before I was in Cambridge. I took a bus from there to my new home.

When I arrived there, no one was home. Due to a misunderstanding between me and my host, she was away at work. So I went to a MacDonald's nearby and waited there for her to pick me up at lunch time. As you can see in the pictures they had tiny containers to put sauce in. I never saw these before, so at first I was quit startled. It was nice to have some food in me and not stand in the rain, because it was raining pretty hard. After a while Pearl (my host) came and picked me up at the Mac and we drove to her home.

I got an entire tour trough the house and got a lot of information from her. She has a lovely dog, though his barks are extremely loud and piercing. I think he just has to get used to me. As you can see in the pictures he's very fluffy and very white.
My room itself is really beautiful and the bed is so nice. I already took a quick nap since I was deadbeat, so I know it sleeps well.

So now it is time to put my clothes into the closet and start thinking about what I am going to do with dinner. I already spotted a supermarket when I walked to the Mac, so I am going to see what they offer. Oh and another thing that is really handy is that I have my own fridge! So I can buy food in advance and it also has a small freezer department.

So overall, I had a pretty eventful and nice day. I am very happy with my accommodation and I am looking forward to what is yet to come!

Talk to you soon!

Love,

Nina

    Dear Nina,
That seems like a good start, and the fridge is a particularly nice touch. Have fun with the first explorations, and as you're settling in do start monitoring your language development (new words etc.) so you can report on those in your future blogs.
    Best,
